Veterans Day Events In Anne Arundel County Will Honor Fallen Service Members

ANNE ARUNDEL COUNTY, MD - Veterans Day is this Saturday, Nov. 11. Two events in Anne Arundel County will honor fallen service members around the holiday.

Fort George G. Meade will host a ceremony Thursday in Odenton. 

The keynote speaker will be retired Maj. Gen. Timothy E. Gowan, the former highest leader of the Maryland National Guard. A joint color guard will present the colors. There will also be tours of the venue's Hall of Heroes, Combat Camera Tech Room and Hall of History.

The event is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Defense Information School Atrium at 6500 Mapes Road. It is open to all active-duty service members, retired military, Department of Defense civilians, ID card holders, family members and guests. The event is closed to the general public unless they have an invitation.

The Crownsville Veterans Cemetery will have a commemoration on Saturday.

Ft. Meade Garrison Commander Col. Michael A. Sapp will be the guest speaker. The Maryland Defense Force Band will perform patriotic music. Refreshments will follow at American Legion Post No. 7, located at 1905 Crownsville Road.
