LINTHICUM HEIGHTS, MD - A substitute teacher was charged with assaulting a 13-year-old male student in Anne Arundel County, police announced Friday. Nobody was hurt in the encounter.

Officers identified the suspect as 36-year-old Darien Corey Eaton of Baltimore. Court records show that Eaton was charged with second-degree assault, which is a misdemeanor.

Authorities said Eaton was a long-term substitute at Lindale Middle School in Linthicum Heights, where the allegations were made.

Police said the school resource officer was called to an administrator's office on Sept. 22 to meet with a student who reported that a teacher had assaulted him.

The male student and the teacher had an argument and the student took out his phone to call his father, police said.

Officers said the teacher took the phone, grabbed the collar of the student's sweatshirt and pushed him up against the wall.

Authorities said they applied for charges on Oct. 26 and a criminal summons was issued.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department said the summons was served on Wednesday.
