CROFTON, MD - A boy was hit by a pick-up truck while riding his bike Tuesday in Crofton, police said.

Officers said a Maryland State Police medevac helicopter flew the victim to the Johns Hopkins Pediatric Trauma Center in Baltimore.

Authorities said the 12-year-old boy from Crofton suffered critical injuries.

Two children were riding their bikes from Nantucket Road across Johns Hopkins Road around 6:25 p.m., police said. That intersection is located between a residential neighborhood, a shopping center and a major road.

Officers said a 1992 Ford F-150 heading east on Johns Hopkins Road hit one of the children and avoided the other.

The second child and the Ford driver were not hurt, authorities said.

The Anne Arundel County Police Department said the Ford driver stayed on the scene.

Officers did not speculate who was at fault.

Authorities are still investigating.

This map shows the intersection where police said the crash happened.
