UPDATE: 4 Pedestrians Struck By Car at Quarterfield Road, Route 100

Police say two of the victims were discharged from the hospital and two others are in stable condition as of Friday.

UPDATE (Friday, 2:30 p.m.)—Three of the four people struck by a vehicle at Quarterfield Road and Route 100 have been released from the hospital, while one remains stable condition, Anne Arundel County police said Friday.  Police said an initial investigation into the incident Thursday night revealed that four people may have been trying to cross Quarterfield Road without the help of a crosswalk or traffic light. They were struck by a Saturn Vue that was attempting to make a left from Quarterfield Road onto the ramp to Route 100 east.  Police said pedestrian error was a "possible contributing factor" in the crash. Even though things are a little muddy memory-wise, my daughter indicated that they were walking along the side of the road and didn't know a car was trying to turn until they got hit by it. If it was dark there would be visible headlights if the driver were turning. Any number of things is possible. .. dusk? That would explain no visible headlights. Driver distracted? Pedestrian and Bicyclist Fatalities Already Surpass Number of Deaths in 2010

The number of pedestrians and bicyclists who died after being struck by vehicles in Anne Arundel County as August approaches has already increased over the number of fatalities for all of 2010, according to police.

According to statistics from Anne Arundel County Police, eight people have died this year after being hit by a vehicle while walking. Another man, Alex Hernandez, 25, of Baltimore, died from injuries sustained during a July 14 hit-and-run in Brooklyn Park. Within eight days, three people died and four were hospitalized after being hit by a vehicle—with two of those cases being hit-and-run accidents. Comparitively there were only seven fatalities in 2010, all pedestrians. In 2009 10 pedestrians died after being hit by a vehicle and one bicyclist died. Numbers shared by police only included fatal accidents in the county. They do not include accidents where the pedestrian or bicyclist survived his or her injuries. Last week Patch spoke with …
