Gambrills General Store Set for Small Business Saturday

The independently-owned shop on Annapolis Road has a wide range of gift ideas.

If you're looking to avoid the big malls on Saturday, the Gambrills General Store will welcome you with open arms.  The store on Annapolis Road will have a special event to celebrate Small Business Saturday, and is already seeing brisk sales of many holiday gifts.  The Gambrills General Store has a variety of holiday-themed items including ornaments, vintage toys, soaps and candles. Store co-owner Janet Garmen said one of the hottest sellers has been Christmas tree ornaments shaped like small animals and made out of coir, a coconut-based fiber.   She also said there has been brisk sales of John Deere logo products, including caps, t-shirts and wallets.  The store will celebrate Small Business Saturday with free food and music for anyone …

Local Businesses, Soccer Players Team Up to Feed Hungry

Several local businesses and the A.S.A. Pride soccer team collected and delivered Thanksgiving meals to five families in Odenton.

Needy families in Odenton will have Thanksgiving dinner this year thanks to the efforts of a local soccer team and group of small businesses.  Ten-year-old girls from the A.S.A. Pride girls soccer team collected and loaded turkeys, mashed potatoes and other fixins on Wednesday night and delivered them to five families who may have otherwise gone without a big feast.  Team members included Sarah Cooper, Sophia Liebermann and Kayla Bobick.  Food was provided by J. King's Restaurant, with help from TradeNet, a local group of small businesses. Owners of the Gambrills General Store and Little House of Flowers were on hand to help load food on Wednesday evening.

To others—including myself—it's the greatest thing since sliced turkey.  WaWa in Gambrills has brought back it's hot turkey "Gobbler" sandwich, complete with cranberry sauce and stuffing. You can also get all the ingredients in a big bowl. They are $3.99 and available through the holidays.  The New Orleans Kitchen and French Market in Severn recently …

New Gym for Kids Opens in Crofton

My Gym of Crofton will have an open house all this weekend and next.

The thumping sounds of the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears filled the room Friday at the new My Gym in Crofton, as toddlers waddled onto a trampoline and older kids checked out the zip line.  The new facility on Route 3 is holding an open house this weekend and next, allowing area families to test out the array of activities available for children as young as six weeks.  Franchise owner Christin Shifflett a former school teacher and fitness instructor, has been operating the Annapolis My Gym location for two-and-a-half years, and now has opened a second location.  Shifflett said the idea behind My Gym is to offer one-hour sessions where kids can get exercise and learn skills like teamwork and following directions.  The My Gym is set up …
