Old Mill High: Winter Sports Start This Week

The basketball, wrestling and indoor track seasons are among those getting started this week.

There was very little gap between the fall and winter sports seasons at local high schools.  Winter sports get going this week with scrimmages and even some regular season matchups. Here's a look at what's happening at Old Mill High.  Boys Basketball -Wednesday 6:45 p.m. vs. Hammond -Friday, 6:45 p.m. at Northeast  Girls Basketball -Wednesday, 6:45 p.m. at Southern. -Friday, 5 p.m. at Northeast Wrestling -Wednesday, 5 p.m. at South River -Dec. 7-8, all day. Old Mill Continues Winning Ways, Thumps Broadneck

The defending state champion Patriots used a series of big plays to overwhelm the Bruins 35-7.

Old Mill High football coach Chad McCormick doesn’t want to hear about who’s gone. He’s only interested in who’s here now. The current crop of Patriots made their own statement Friday night with a 35-7 win over Broadneck in the team’s first game since claiming the 2011 Class 4A state championship. “These guys are making a name for themselves now,” McCormick said. “When you don’t want to talk about who we have, that’s going to put a chip on our shoulder.” Old Mill capitalized on a series of big plays to jump all over the Bruins. The Patriots struck first with an 80-yard touchdown pass from Jalen Jones to the lanky Carl Chance. It's Time for Bulls and Oysters

Several groups have bull and oyster roasts coming up to raise money for various causes.

It appears to be that time of year, when local groups ask the community to sit down and pile their plates with beef, oysters and other goodies. Several local groups have bull and/or oyster roasts scheduled, with money going toward various causes including stadium lights and fire trucks. In addition to a wide range of food, most events will also have raffles, door prizes and disc jockey entertainment. On Jan. 27 at 7 p.m., the Arundel Athletic Boosters will host a bull roast at La Fontaine Bleue in Glen Burnie. Money from the sale of tickets will go toward new lights at Carroll Field at Arundel High. Tickets are $40. This is just a bull roast, no oysters. Email boosters@arundelathletics.org for information.
