Committee Opposes Plans for Homes on North Patuxent

The Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee voted against recommending plans for 51 new homes on North Patuxent Road and Becknel Avenue. County planners will have the final say.

The committee charged with reviewing development projects in the Odenton Town Center has cast a blow to plans for 51 homes at the corner of North Patuxent Road and Becknel Avenue. The Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee on Tuesday voted 4-2 to against the concept plan by Elm Street Development, instead recommending that the density of the project be reduced by at least a third. With the vote, the committee essentially sided with neighbors and local historic preservationists, who said the plan was not in keeping with the character of the area, located just to the east of the Odenton MARC station. Plans call for 48 townhomes and three single-family homes, with some live-work units included. Other single-family homes on North …

Agree with high density, disagree with the layout of the plan. The decision was a good one.   more ›

Fire Destroys Vacant House in Odenton

Firefighters responded shortly after midnight Friday to Delray Court, near North Patuxent Road.

A fire tore through a vacant house in Odenton early Friday morning, completely gutting a structure that had already been marked for demolition. Lt. Cliff Kooser of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said units responded at about 12:20 a.m. Friday to Delray Court, just east of North Patuxent Road. They discovered a house that was fully engulfed in flames, but extinguished it without any severe damage to other nearby houses. Kooser said the house was already unoccupied and that there were already plans to level it. There were no reports of injuries and no immediate word on what caused the fire.

Residents Hear Latest North Patuxent Proposal

Latest plan calls for 58 townhomes with garages.

Odenton residents on Tuesday heard the latest proposal from a developer looking to build townhomes on a site near North Patuxent Road and Becknel Avenue. The latest concept presented to the Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee calls for as many as 58 townhomes with garages. That would be about two-thirds of the density of previous plans that had called for more than 90 homes. Steve Horne of Elm Street Development said the townhomes would be three stories, with a few two-story homes located closer to the street. There would be a new single-family home on the site, and two other historic homes near the lot would remain in place. Elm Street Development has contracted with The Hogan Cos. to develop the 5.7-acre site, which is just to …

Seems that back 5 or so years ago that's what the county planners wanted up here. We already have over crowed roads up at the North County area, Check out Telegraph and Reese/Quarterfield intersection, it can take nearly a half hour if you are on Reese Road to get through between 4 and 6 pm. Telegraph Road, the same thing in the mornings and afternoons to early evening.   more ›

Developer To Scale Back North Patuxent Plans

The Hogan Companies said it will consider three-story townhouses at a site near the MARC station, and will preserve two historic houses.

An Annapolis developer said he will scale back plans for new homes along North Patuxent Road after hearing feedback from local residents and historians. Tim Hogan of The Hogan Companies said he will likely draw up plans for about 60 three-story townhomes on eight acres just to the east of the Odenton MARC station, and will keep intact at least two historic homes. Earlier plans had called for apartments or as many as 90 townhomes as high as four stories. Hogan spoke briefly at Tuesday's Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee meeting, but did not present formal plans for the project. He said he could present rough plans as early as the town center committee’s March meeting. "People didn't want it to be overbuilt, didn't want it to be …

Developer to Meet With Heritage Society Over N. Patuxent Project

The Hogan Companies wants to hear more about concerns from the Odenton Heritage Society, which objected to plans for a mixed-use development near Odenton Road and North Patuxent Road.

An Annapolis-based developer said it will meet with members of the Odenton Heritage Society, after the group recently objected to its efforts to build a mixed-use project near North Patuxent and Odenton Roads. Tim Hogan of The Hogan Companies said he would like to talk with the society, whose members recently told a local planning board that it did not believe plans for the site were keeping with the area’s status as a historic district. “We want to hear what their concerns are,” Hogan said. He said he hoped the meeting would take place in the next couple of weeks. The Odenton Town Center Plan Oversight Committee, which reviews projects in Odenton before they go on to the county zoning office, looked at two rough proposals from the Hogan …
