Fort Meade to Host Resiliency Expo

Details about the wellness fair appear in the latest version of 'Meade Week' from the Fort Meade public affairs office

Fort Meade will host wellness expo later this week as part of its "101 Critical Days of Summer" safety campaign.  The installation will hold the Safety, Wellness and Resiliency Fair on May 23, with vendors and displays on topics such as motorcycle safety and fire prevention. The event is open to the public and will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Fort Meade Pavilion.  "The prolonged hours of daylight encourages us to jam as many of our favorite pastimes into our day as possible and more activities means more potential for accidents," the Army said on its website. "While we enjoy these lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer, often we fail to recognize the risks associated with our favorite off-duty activities." The Fort Meade public …

Defense Media Activity Gets New Director

Ray Shepherd is officially running one of the newest agencies at Fort Meade.

The Defense Media Activity at Fort Meade has its first director in nearly a year.  Raymond Shepherd is the new head of the agency, which opened at Fort Meade last year.  Defense Media Activity was formed by the merger of all of the military's broadcast, publication and online arms. It was installed at Fort Meade as part of the base realignment and closure activities completed last year.  "They took Army broadcasting, Army public affairs, all the websites, the photography ... all of those things are in one building," Shepherd said in the most recent edition of Meade Week, produced by Fort Meade's public affairs office.  Prior to joining DMA, Shepherd was the Senior Vice President, Operations for the Warwick Consulting Group. Navy Football Coach to Speak at Fort Meade

Ken Niumatalolo will appear as part of the installation's celebration of Asian-Pacific Heritage Month.

Navy football head coach Ken Niumatalolo will stop by Fort Meade later this month as the installation celebrates Asian-Pacific Heritage Month.  Niumatalolo will speak on May 9 at the McGill Training Center in an event hosted by the 902nd Military Intelligence Brigade. The event is open to the public.  Niumatalolo was born in Hawaii and has been the head football coach at the U.S. Naval Academy since 2007, with a record of 40-26. Fort Meade Celebrates Earth Day Thursday

The installation will have the event at Burba Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Fort Meade will host its Earth Day celebration on Thursday at Burba Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The event will feature displays and activities from more than two dozen groups and there will be free food provided by Uno Pizzeria and Picerne Housing.  Students from Meade Middle and Manor View Elementary schools will have displays along with those from Monarch Academy.  The Earth Day event is open to the public. Colin Powell to Visit Fort Meade

The former Secretary of State will hold a book signing at Fort Meade on May 4.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell will appear at Fort Meade on May 4 to sign his latest book, It Worked for Me: In Life and Leadership. The retired four-star general will be at the installation's main exchange from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. That story and other news appeared in the latest "Meade Week" roundup from the fort's public affairs office.
