Borrowing from the Library Without Leaving My Chair

I got an Amazon Kindle this week, and took advantage of the ability to borrow from the Anne Arundel County Public Library System.

I suppose it was only a matter of time. Since I spend my days editing an online-only news outlet, it was only natural that I'd eventually also ditch traditional books in favor of an e-reader.  This week, I became the proud owner of an Amazon Kindle. I had some gift money left over from Christmas, so figured it'd be a good time to give the gadget a try. I got the $69 bare-boned version. I like to read, but have always had affection for physical books. I grew up on them in shelves in my home. I like to browse bookstores in search of treasures. I enjoy taking books out of the library and also like grabbing used books for super-cheap. Would the Kindle take away from that whole experience? I was reluctant, but could definitely see the advantage…

Thanksgiving Travelers Could Get Free Cover for iPad, Kindle, Nook

An Odenton-based company will be giving away free covers a cases at BWI in a "no strings attached," effort.

Travelers flying to and from BWI might be greeted with free covers for their iPads, Kindles, Nooks or tablets next week. Beginning Wednesday, employees of M-Edge Accessories will be at BWI handing out covers for iPads and various e-readers to travelers who are carrying one of the electrical devices. According to Cailtin Mills, the employees will offer discount cards to those without the devices. Mills said there are “no strings attached” with the giveaway, and that the products being distributed are valued between $30 and $50. “M-Edge wants to bring a little holiday cheer to traveling and have the gift-giving start early,” Mills said in an email to Patch. Employees from M-Edge Accessories will be handing out free iPad and e-reader covers …

M-Edge is a great local company in Odenton. They have high quality, affordable items. I can recommend them as I am an owner of their products - a Kindle cover and light - and have received many inquiries on where I got them and that they look great.   more ›

If you don't have an e-reader but are eager to try a Nook or Kindle, you can now borrow one at the West County Area Library and other branches in the county. Each branch has e-readers available for borrowing—and placing holds on the devices—starting on Wednesday, according to a release from Anne Arundel County Public Library (AACPL). The Anne Arundel County Public Library Foundation Inc. recently provided $50,000 to the library system to purchase 200 e-readers. “It is a very exciting time for the Anne Arundel County Public Library and the Foundation is proud to be a part of providing Library patrons with this cutting-edge resource,” said Eric Edstrom, president of the Foundation Board of Directors, in a release.
