An Arundel High School student is one of five students vying for a seat on the Maryland State Board of Education. Christian Hodges, a junior at Arundel, has been a named a semifinalist for a board seat along with two other students from Anne Arundel County. Hodges was selected following an interview process involving fellow students and one adult. There will be an election on Jan. 26 to determine the two finalists for the board, and Gov. Martin O'Malley will make the final selection. Students from Montgomery County and Howard County were also among the semifinalists. Student members of the state board have limited voting rights. An Old Mill High School student has been selected as a finalist for a position on the Anne Arundel County Board of Education. Nick Lefavor, who will be a senior during the 2012-13 school year, is one of three candidates downselected from eight applicants. He underwent a series of interviews from a three-member panel and will participate in a Candidates Night on Feb. 29. The other two candidates are Sean Cooley of Severna Park High School and Jake Ritterpusch of Chesapeake High School, according to a press release from the school system. Gov.
