South River overcame a two-goal deficit and topped Arundel, 3-2 in double overtime.
The South River High girls soccer team won the Class 4A East regional title Tuesday night, overcoming a 2-0 halftime deficit to beat Arundel High, 3-2. The game was won by Maddie Koenig on a penalty kick in the second overtime, sending the Seahawks on to the state final four. Arundel took an early lead on goals by Clarissa Kirsch-Downs and Allison Shaner. But Kacie Longo scored two late goals in regulation, and Koenig secured the win for South River in the second extra period. South River will now play Bowie in the state semifinal. The Wildcats beat Broadneck, 2-0, and will play South River for the regional title Tuesday.
The Arundel girls soccer team won again Friday, securing a 2-0 victory over Broadneck to advance in the MPSSAA Class 4A state soccer tournament. The Wildcats moved on to the regional final and will face South River on Tuesday. Do you have photos of the game? Upload them here!

Local high school teams, including those from Arundel and Old Mill, are in the hunt for state titles.
Superstorm Sandy hasn't prevented local sports teams from going after state titles. The Arundel girls soccer team continues to roll, while the volleyball team has yet to lose. Meanwhile, teams from Meade and Old Mill are alive for championships. With state playoff tournaments either underway or about to begin, here's a look at how our local teams are faring. Volleyball The Arundel girls secured the county championship with a sweep of Severna Park on Wednesday. The Wildcats have earned the top seed in the Class 4A East regional, and will host either Leonardtown or Meade on Monday. The team is inviting all young girls to the turf field Tuesday. Proceeds go to help fund new uniforms and warmup outfits.
The Arundel High School girls soccer team will host a clinic Tuesday evening for young girls, with proceeds going to fund new uniforms for the team. All girls between ages 4 and 13 are invited to the Arundel turf field between 5:30 and 8:30 p.m., where they'll get instruction on passing, shooting and dribbling, and take part in small games and drills. The cost is $25, and participants will get free pizza and can win prizes. All of the proceeds of the clinic will go to support the girls soccer team, which is seeking new uniforms and warmup outfits.

You can't count on or assume the Arundel girls will be in the same position next season...injuries are a big factor. They needed to win NOW....losing big games is becoming a habit for the Arundel girls soccer team over the last several years.
