Arundel's Tanner Chaplain Qualifies For State Wrestling Tourney

The junior, who sports a 27-5 record, will compete at 120 pounds. Two wrestlers from Meade High also qualified.

Arundel High School will send a representative to the state wrestling tournament, after junior Tanner Chaplain qualified to compete at 120 pounds.  Chaplain, who has a 27-5 record, will open against Tony Arrington of Mergenthaler High in Baltimore.  Travis Chidebe, a sophomore from Meade High, also qualified to compete at 145 pounds. He'll open against Chad Ellis of Linganore High.  Meade Senior Juan Coronado will wrestle at 170 pounds against Linganore's Luke Britten. The MPSSAA state wrestling tournament takes place Friday and Saturday at Cole Field House in College Park.

Spalding 2nd, Arundel 5th in Cavalier Duals

South River also finished third in the wrestling tournament held Friday and Saturday at Archbishop Spalding High.

Host school Archbiship Spalding finished second in the Cavalier Duals wrestling tournament over the weekend while South River and Arundel also finished in the top five, local news outlets reported.  The Baltimore Sun reported that John Carroll High took home first place after beating Spalding in the final and going unbeaten during the two-day affair.  South River finished in third place after beating Loudoun County High 52-9. Arundel finished fifth after a tie of Mount St. Joseph's.  Old Mill High finished 8th. Read full reports from the tournament in the Baltimore Sun and The Capital.

Wrestlers Grapple at Cavalier Duals

Top wrestlers from around the region gathered at Archbishop Spalding High for the first day of the prestigious tournament.

Arundel High: Winter Sports Get Going

The basketball, wrestling and bowling seasons are among those getting started this week.

There was very little gap between the fall and winter sports seasons at local high schools.  Winter sports get going this week with scrimmages, and some regular season matchups are scheduled for next week.  Here's a look at what's happening at Arundel High. VIDEO: Tyler Goodwin's Championship Bout

Odenton Patch recorded the final bout of the Arundel High senior's high school career.

Arundel High senior Tyler Goodwin won his second Maryland state high school wrestling championship on Saturday, winning 9-4 over Jeff Taylor of Bel Air High. Odenton Patch was on hand to record the full 132-pound bout from Cole Field House at the University of Maryland in College Park.

Goodwin Wins Second State Wrestling Title

Arundel High School senior finishes his high school career with a win at the state wrestling championship in College Park.

Tyler Goodwin didn't pin his way to a wrestling championship Saturday as he had hoped, but he certainly wasn't complaining. Goodwin, a senior at Arundel High, won his second state wrestling title with a dominating 9-4 win at 132 pounds over Jeff Taylor of Bel Air High. "I really wanted to go out and pin him as fast as I could, but that didn't work out," said Goodwin, who had pinned all of his previous opponents in the tournament. "I'll take the win and end my senior year on that note." Goodwin finished his year with a record of 38-1. He was one of four Arundel wrestlers competing at the state tournament, held at Cole Field House at the University of Maryland. Local Wrestlers Advance in State Tourney

Athletes from Arundel, Old Mill and Meade High Schools remain in the hunt for titles at the MPSSA State Wrestling Championships in College Park.

Several local high school wrestlers remained in the hunt to win titles Saturday at the state championshiop meet in College Park. Arundel High senior Tyler Goodwin easily advanced to the semifinals at 132 pounds, after earning two quick victories Friday. Goodwin is going after his second straight state title.He will start Saturday in a semifinal against Alex Truit of Leonardtown High. Mark Scarlas of Meade High School is in the semifinals at 195 pounds, along with Seth Holbrook of Old Mill High. Scarlas and Holbrook could meet in the championship bout. Four Arundel Wrestlers Go After State Titles

The team is coming off a third-place finish at regionals. Seniors Tyler Goodwin and Logan Reece are among the favorites to be on the podium.

Four wrestlers from Arundel High School will go for titles this weekend as the MPSSAA State Wrestling Championships take place in College Park.   Senior Tyler Goodwin will seek his second straight championship, after qualifying for the state tournament at 132 pounds. Goodwin enters the state tourney with a record of 34-1 after winning the Class 4A East regional title last week. Tyler Goodwin’s younger brother, Justin, also qualified and will wrestle at 138 pounds. He finished in third place at regionals. Senior Logan Reece will enter the state tournament with a record of 30-3 and will wrestle at 120 pounds. High school sports teams are entering the playoff stretch. Here's a look at how local teams are faring.

The winter high school sports season is wrapping up, with most teams either finishing up or about to enter postseason play. In the Odenton and Severn area, there are several teams looking to compete for regional and state championships. Here’s a look at how things are shaping up for our local athletes. Basketball The draw for the Class 4A state tournaments will take place on Sunday. The Arundel High boys and Meade High girls will be among the teams to beat after securing county titles. The Arundel High boys team will finish its regular season at South River on Friday. The team was unbeaten until a tough loss to Old Mill on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Meade High girls will finish their regular season Friday against Glen Burnie. They are 16-5 …
