Future Dealers in Training at Maryland Live! School

The new casino is using space at Marley Station mall to train nearly 900 students in games ranging from craps to blackjack.

The Maryland Live! casino is looking to hire hundreds of new dealers as it introduces live table games later this year. About 860 are now in training at Marley Station mall in Glen Burnie, where the casino has set up a dealer school in partnership with Anne Arundel Community College.  I stopped by Tuesday afternoon and saw scores of students in action as they learned the ins and outs of dealing blackjack, pai gow poker and baccarat, as well as other games including craps and roulette.  There were 9,000 applicants to the dealer school and 6,000 received interviews. Only 860 were accepted to the school. Most of those will be hired if they have a successful audition, according to Neal Slone, the casino's vice president of table games.  …

Revenue Up at Casinos in December

All casinos in the state saw increases in revenue in the final month of the year, though revenue from Hollywood Casino and Ocean Downs was lower than in 2011. Maryland Live! pulled in $229 million in 2012.

The Maryland Live! casino pulled in $229 million in revenue in 2012, comprising more than 60 percent of all gambling revenue statewide, despite opening in June. The Maryland Lottery reported that the casino at Arundel Mills finished the year with $35 million in revenue in December, up from $34 million the month prior. Across the state, Maryland's three casinos pulled in $45.2 million in the last month of 2012, up nearly 5 percent from November.  However, December revenue from Ocean Downs and Hollywood Casino was $3.19 million, 25 percent less than in 2011, when Maryland Live! was not yet open.  Maryland Live! is the largest of the three casinos, with 4,750 game terminals. Its per-terminal revenue of $244 in December was nearly double that …

Casino Moves to 24/7 Operations

It's now possible to gamble at Maryland Live! at any hour of the day.

The Maryland Live! casino will now be open every second of every day. The casino at Arundel Mills officially began 24/7 gambling operations on Thursday, after receiving approval from voters and the Maryland Lottery. Maryland Live! opened at 8 a.m. and has no plans to close its doors. The move to 24/7 gambling comes as the casino is also preparing for the addition of about 150 live table games in January. It plans to hire 1,200 workers, including 800 dealers. Do you plan to take advantage of the casino being open 24 hours a day?

Casino to Move to 24-Hour Operations on Dec. 27

Pending regulatory approval, Maryland Live! will be open round-the-clock.

The Maryland Live! Casino at Arundel Mills will introduce 24-hour operations on Dec. 27, taking advantage of new rules passed by voters last month. Pending regulatory approval, the casino will be open round-the-clock, seven days a week. Meanwhile, Maryland Live! continues to work toward adding live table games sometime next year, and will launch a free dealer school in cooperation with Anne Arundel County Community College on Jan. 7. The 24-hour gambling and 150 live table games are expected to require about 1,200 new workers, including 800 dealers. Maryland Live! Currently operates 4,750 slot machines, though it may reduce that number once live table games are in place. Does the introduction of 24-hour gambling mean much to you?

We're stuck with the casino at this point, so at least real tables and 24 hour action will make it suck less. I mean, if you're gonna do it, go all out.   more ›
