Arundel Eliminated from Lacrosse Playoffs, South River Advances

Meanwhile, several local baseball teams move on

It was a tough Friday for the Arundel lacrosse teams, as both the girls and boys fell in the MPSSAA state tournament.  The Arundel boys were upset 11-9 by Chesapeake, while the girls fell 14-9 to top-seeded Huntingtown. South River, however, remains alive in the tourament with both its teams advancing. The Seahawk boys topped Broadneck 11-7 and will play at Huntingtown on Monday. The girls secured a big 19-1 win over Northern High on Friday, and will next host Huntingtown.  Arundel to Host Old Mill in Baseball The Arundel baseball team earned a first-round bye in the state tournament, setting up a second round matchup against local rival Old Mill on Monday.  Old Mill moved to the second round by beating Glen Burnie 7-4 on Friday.  South …

Arundel Lacrosse Teams Sweep Playoff Openers

The boys topped Annapolis, 14-7, and the girls won over Great Mills, 21-2.

It was a great day for the Arundel Wildcat lacrosse teams, as the girls and boys squads each won their playoff openers.  The No. 4-seeded boys beat Annapolis, 14-7, while the girls stomped Great Mills, 20-2.  The boys will next play Chesapeake High, a 15-1 winner over Chopticon.  The Arundel girls will next travel to top-seeded Leonardtown.  Both teams are playing in the MPSSAA Class 3A/4A East region. Sports Playoffs To Be Set This Week

The high school playoff brackets for baseball, softball and lacrosse will be announced, with several local teams vying for top seeds.

Local high school teams will learn their paths to a potential state title this week, as the playoff brackets are announced for baseball, softball and lacrosse.  The best teams will be vying for top seeds and first-round byes, with most teams likely playing in the MPSSAA Class 4A East region.  Here's a look at how things might shake out. LACROSSE (Bracket announced Monday) The Arundel and South River boys should be in contention for a top seed. Arundel finished 13-1 and South River went 12-2 overall, but South River handed Arundel its only loss on the year. LACROSSE: Arundel Boys Upset Severna Park

The Wildcats won to finish the regular season 13-1. It was the first win over Severna Park since 2001.

The Arundel High boys lacrosse team ended more than 12 years of frustration with a 7-6 win over Severna Park on Friday night.  The Wildcats ended the regular season with a victory to finish 13-1 on the year. It was the team's first win over Severna Park since 2001.  Tyler Young scored three times in the win. On the girls side, Arundel fell to Severna Park, 24-7.  The Arundel boys will next play Northeast in the County Championship game Monday. PHOTOS: Arundel Lacrosse Senior Night

The graduating class was honored during a special ceremony Tuesday at Carroll Field.

The Arundel High lacrosse teams honored their seniors on Tuesday night during the final home game of the year.  And the teams made it an extra special day by sweeping Chesapeake High. The girls won 11-9, while the boys triumphed, 13-7.  The graduating teammates were recognized in a special ceremony in between games.  On the boys side, honored seniors included Reece Sullivan, Cameron Cetrone, Alex Newman, Evan Jones, Matthew Prigg, David White, Alex Hanna, Jacob Bustos, Daniel Jovinelli, Jason Barrett, Tyler Young, Timothy Stargel, Ryan Manion and Logan Fate. Arundel High Grad Wins Lacrosse Player of the Week

TJ Holston, who excelled while at Arundel High, has helped lead Albright to an 11-2 record in the Commonwealth Conference.

A former Arundel High lacrosse standout has been named Player of the Week in the Commonwealth Conference.  T.J. Holston, a Gambrills native and sophomore at Albright College, earned the honor after helping the school to a 10-9 win over Widener, its first-ever win over a ranked team. Albright also beat Elizabethtown 11-8. Holston scored three goals in each of the wins, the school reported.  Holston was Player of the Week in the conference twice as a freshman as well.  Albright is now 11-2 on the year. Holston is tied for first on the team with 36 goals.  See also:

Arundel's Felton, Young Announce College Choices

Two athletes from the high school revealed that they will play lacrosse and volleyball in college.

Two seniors from Arundel High School announced Wednesday that they will play sports at the collegiate level.  Tyler Young and Ashlee Felton took part in a signing ceremony at the school.  Young has committed to play lacrosse at Towson University, while Felton will play volleyball while attending LaSalle University in Philadelphia.  Both have been standout athletes at Arundel. Felton helped lead the volleyball team to back-to-back state finals in 2011 and 2012.  Young has been one of the top scorers for the Wildcats in lacrosse and has led the team to a perfect record this year. He also played wide receiver for the Arundel football team.  Felton said she was drawn to LaSalle after getting a chance to work out with the team earlier this year…

LACROSSE: Arundel Teams Split Against Broadneck

The boys prevailed over the Bruins, 13-6, while the girls fell 18-5.

The Arundel High boys lacrosse team continued its winning ways on Friday, topping rival Broadneck 13-6 at Carroll Field.  The Arundel girls, meanwhile, fell 18-5 to the Lady Bruins.  Check out our gallery of the action in Gambrills from photographer Todd Breese.

High School Lacrosse Roundup, March 23

The girls and boys from Arundel won their opening matches against North County, while Old Mill's squads lost to Severna Park.

The high school lacrosse season got underway this week, with teams from Arundel, Old Mill and Meade in action on Thursday.  The Arundel boys recorded a 20-2 win over North County, with Logan Fate scoring five goals. The Lady Wildcats won 14-3 behind three goals from Amanda Mozier.  The boys from Meade High fell to Southern 20-1, while the Meade girls lost 16-0.  The Old Mill boys lost 16-2 to Severna Park, while the girls lost 18-3.  Get details and photos on the Old Mill games from contributor Todd King.  See also:    Anyone can post scores, photos and other sports news directly in the Patch announcements section.
