An Arundel High School teacher who had been the subject of a school system investigation since February resumed his class schedule this week. School officials confirmed that Andrew Cizek, a popular psychology and comparative government teacher, was back in the classroom Tuesday. He had received broad support from students and parents, who questioned the timing of his removal during preparations for Advanced Placement testing. "The students, staff and the administration was unbelievable and I was honored beyond belief," Cizek said in a phone interview with Patch. An Arundel High senior acknowledged sending a tweet about a teacher that prompted an investigation, but said it's all a misunderstanding.
An Arundel High School senior, who has found herself in the middle of a controversy involving a teacher and a social media website, said on Friday that the whole situation is a misunderstanding. Olivia Piasecki, 17, was a student in Andrew Cizek's Advanced Placement Comparative Government Class. She said in an interview with Patch that she regrets sending a tweet in which she referred to herself as Cizek's “girlfriend” and that she hoped he would not be punished by the school system. UPDATE (3:56 p.m. Friday)—A popular Arundel High School teacher was reassigned last month after one of his female students referred to herself as his “girlfriend” on Twitter. Now, some of Andrew Cizek’s students plan to rally before the county Board of Education next week in support of the psychology and social studies teacher. Anne Arundel County Public Schools spokesman Bob Mosier said Cizek was removed from Arundel High at the end of February. He has been reassigned to a position that does not involve contact with students. A different school maybe BUT this is a cop-out by the School Board and a lawsuit waiting to take place. I think the entire School Board should be named in a future suit for Depraved Indifference when the next incident occurs.   more ›
