Arundel's Keaton Mack to Play at Next Level

The basketball standout has committed to play at Baltimore City Community College

The number of Arundel basketball players who have committed to play in college keeps getting longer.  Keaton Mack, a two-year starter at Arundel, said he will play at Baltimore City Community College this fall.  He joins two other former Wildcats who will play collegiately, including Ryan Hill (Stevenson) and Austin Carrol (Eastern). Teammate Aaron Lewis-Cenales has committed to play football at New Hampshire. Mack helped lead Arundel to a 22-4 record this past season. He averaged 8.5 points, 5.7 assists, two rebounds and two steals per game.

Residents Speak Out Against Cell Phone Tower

About 100 people gather at the library, largely in opposition to the plan to put a tower on the grounds of Piney Orchard Elementary School

Many residents of Piney Orchard said they opposed a plan to place a wireless communications tower at the community's elementary school, raising concerns about property values and health.  About 100 packed into a room at the West County Area Library on Monday evening and heard from officials from Milestone Communications and Verizon, who have proposed building a 99-foot monopole behind the school.  Companies said there is a gap in cell phone coverage spanning much of the community. Officials said Piney Orchard Elementary School was an attractive site due to its relatively high elevation.  Jessica O'Kane, a member of the Piney Orchard Community Association Board of Directors, and a parent of students at the school, said she believed the …

Community to Meet on Piney Orchard Cell Tower Monday

The tower is proposed for the grounds on Piney Orchard Elementary School.

Residents of Piney Orchard will gather Monday for a meeting to discuss a proposed cell tower at the community's elementary school.  Milestone Communications has proposed building a 99-foot tower at Piney Orchard Elementary School, in order to assist Verizon in improving its mobile phone coverage.  The community meeting, which is required by law, will be held Monday at 7 p.m. at the West County Area Library.  The Anne Arundel County Board of Education reviewed the proposal on April 3. It does not need to vote on the plan, as it already has an approved Master Leasing Agreement with Milestone. Under the agreement, the school system receives 40 percent of all rent revenues from the tower and a $25,000 one-time payment. It will also receive $5,…

So let me see if I have this straight. You are upset that the company is paying the school system rather then paying taxes? That a bit like being upset that someone paid to fill your tank with gas rather than giving you a gas card. To further this absurd conversation, are you similarly upset that apartment renters are not paying and property taxes?   more ›

Old Mill Complex Receives Bomb Threat, Teen Arrested

Police say an 18-year-old Baltimore man made threats for personal reasons, and there was no evidence of any real threat to student safety

Anne Arundel County police arrested an 18-year-old Baltimore man Thursday, after he was accused of threatening to plant bombs near the Old Mill school complex in Millersville.  Police said an investigation revealed there was no real threat to student safety but they arrested Matthew Permenter of Jack Place in Baltimore, charging him with several counts of making threats and false statements. Permenter reportedly made the threats on social media. Police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said an investigation determined Permenter made the threat because he was frustrated about being unable to attend the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life, which takes place Friday night at the Old Mill complex. Police said that the school resource officer at the…
