The dedicated staff at this public elementary school work to encourage students to excel. In 2003, Van Bokkelen Elementary's low test scores and socio-economic disadvantages surrounding the students created an obstacle for the children. However, since then, the faculty and administration at Van Bokkelen have adopted a series of substantial programs, allowing them to boast positive numbers each year as their students post stronger and stronger test scores. The teachers call their students "scholars," and students are encouraged to attend college as part of the school's partnership with No Excuses University, a program which empowers students to choose a college they'd like to attend as a motivating factor to help them through the challenges of life and education. Students wear uniforms when attending classes and activities at this Title One school.
