A Look at Applebee's, Aquariums and Casinos

More suggestions of where to go (and not go) near Anne Arundel County

Applebee's in Crofton (Waugh Chapel) - They have taken down all of the dusty junk that has hung on their walls for God knows how long... They have some new items on their menu..and trying to change their image.   We go there often because it is consistent and they have employees who are dedicated and loyal to this restaurant.  We have always had excellent customer service.  On trivia night, the trivia guy could ask some easier questions to help our pride a bit though.. lol

Baltimore Aquarium (Downtown Harbor) - Pricey - $30 for adults and $20 something for kids..  I would suggest looking into a membership..  We purchased a membership for 6 of us for $159 that allows us to get into the aquarium for the next year at no charge and no line.  It would have cost us more if we would have paid for us to go just for the day.

Dicks Last Resort (Downtown Harbor)- Says it in the name.. Only as a "last resort".  Appetizers were cold and your pressured into purchasing the $20 margarita.. I know rudeness and pressure is their mojo,  but the only way I would return is if it were for a birthday.

Maryland Live - If you go, park in valet (to the right as you enter garage).. It is only $5 and an elevator ride directly down to casino... My nick name for the place right now is Maryland Dead.. I walked out with nothing.  lol..  I played Grease and Bombers for a few hours..  Unfortunately, you pretty much have to go to the bar to get your drinks as the waitress/waiters are few and far between.  You are charged for your alcohol $5 each , even if you are playing.  A bit much when they are the size of the plastic cups at a water machine.  I will still go back, the people watching is amusing enough!

The only place to get your money's worth anymore is 7-Eleven. Wonder when they will put in picnic tables and waiter service. Pizza for $1 AND LOTTO.

Amen on 7-11 Ronald. Sam's Club always has my vote on produce value. The Strawberries and Nectarines are to die for. Great value. I do wonder why the tomatoes last a week or more from there but if you purchase "local" tomatoes they last only a couple of days. Even a better value when I'm not the one paying for the membership (my sister gave the me the gratis extra card).

I haven't been to Sam's Club in awhile. I'll have to give it another try. We're new to the area. Where is the closest Sam's Club to Gambrils/Ft. Meade? We are also looking for a single-family home to buy but we just don't trust realtors to tell us the complete truth (we'd rather hear from real people). Are there neighborhoods that we should stay away from (we really don't want to be involved with HOAs either - not much good to say about them - maybe it's different down here)?

There is a Sam's club in Severn on Rt 174 at 97. This shopping center also has a Lazy Boy, Lowes, Kohls and a Walmart. This Sam's club also has a gas station that seems to beat local prices by 5-10 cents/gallon. I'm sure I would be "bashed" if I exclaimed "I wouldn't send my enemy to this or that neighborhood". SO... I can't go there. I would suggest looking at past issues of the Severn and Odenton Patch to get a feel for some "not so choice" neighborhoods. Of course the school feeder system should also be a contributing factor (if you have children).

I took your advice and looked at some of the threads on the Severn and Odenton Patch. Having done that it makes me sad and confused to see all the insults, threats and bullying being allowed by the PATCH. We rent for now but it seems as if we don't want to move into Seven Oaks, the new development everyone is trashing by some dump site or Piney Orchard. But we appreciate the lead Mark and will keep looking for a community that is more accepting than those. Hopefully no one will bash me for my opinion based upon what I have read. Take care and God Bless.
