'Dump Your Plump' at Fort Meade

Fort Meade residents and employees at the installation can compete as teams to see who can lose the most weight heading into 2013.

Fort Meade wants you to cut out the fat.

For the 5th straight year, the installation will hold the "Dump Your Plump" competition to encourage members of the defense community to get into shape.

Teams and individuals can register beginning Monday for the challenge, which runs from Jan. 7 to Feb. 28.

Throughout the competition, each entrant will be weighed once each week at the Gaffney Fitness Center.

Prizes will be awarded to the first, second and third place teams, as well as the first and second place winners for men and women. There will also be a special prize for the overall winner.

Last year, we profiled members of the Fort Meade Fire Department, who were among the "biggest losers."

Not sure about civilian off base. Civilians who work on base can participate though. One of last years winners was not military but he worked on base.

BTW: For questions you can call 301-677-3724. You need a DOD ID to get into the base fitness center but if you have a sponsor you might get in as a guest. Cannot hurt to call them and ask. You might post what info you find to help others. Good Luck !

Nee. Great question on the civilian side. I know my wife and I would be very interested as well. We live just outside of Ft. Meade. If you end up hearing that civilians with sponsors can participate, can you pass that along so I can contact some of my DOD friends. Thanks
