Arundel Volleyball Outlasts Broadneck in State Playoffs

The Wildcats won 3-2 in a highly competitive affair to move on the regional final. South River, meanwhile, fell to Severna Park.

The volleyball rivalry between Arundel High and Broadneck High has been one of the best in the county in recent years.

It was on display again Wednesday, as Arundel edged Broadneck 3-2 to move into the Class 4A East regional final. Powered by seniors Ashley Felton and juniors Brittany and Allie Orr, the Wildcats are now one win away from a third consecutive appearance in the state final four.

Tuesday's match was a tense affair that went the distance, and each set was competitive.

Arundel took the first game from Broadneck, 25-23, but Broadneck bounced back with a 25-22 win in the second. Arundel then won the third game 25-23.

Broadneck tied things up at 25-22 in the fourth, but Arundel took the final game 15-11.

Arundel will host Severna Park for the regional title at 5 p.m. Friday. Severna Park was a winner over South River on Wednesday in the other regional semifinal.
