Arundel Upset in County Title Game

The Annapolis Panthers handed Arundel its only loss in the county this season.

After making it through the regular season without a loss in county, the Arundel High boys basketball team fell to Annapolis Wednesday in the county title game.

Annapolis secured the title with a 51-49 win over Arundel as time expired.

The Wildcats had not lost to a team from Anne Arundel County since a similar buzzer-beater loss to Old Mill last year.

The Capital reported that Juan Brown stole the ball in the waning seconds and ran the length of the floor to drain a layup right at the buzzer.

Both Annapolis and Arundel will now prepare for the MPSSAA playoffs. Annapolis is the No. 4 seed in the Class 3A East bracket, and secured a first-round bye. The Panthers will face the winner of the game between Howard and Northeast.

Arundel is the No. 2 seed in the Class 4A East region and will face the winner of the game between Chesapeake and Leonardtown.
