The Arundel High volleyball team is staking a claim as one of the best in the state, but one of its past stars is still making a name for herself.
Ashlyn Tapley is a freshman at Salisbury University, and has emerged as a top player at the collegiate level.
Salisbury's athletic department website reports that Tapley earned Player of the Week honors in the Capital Athletic Conference after helping the team to four wins last week. The Seahawks won the Salisbury University Invitational, where Tapley was named Most Valuable Player.
Salisbury is 26-2 and atop the CAC standings. Tapley leads the team in kills and is second in service aces.
Tapley played a key role in leading the Arundel Wildcats to their first-ever regional championship in 2010. The team followed up with an appearance in the state championship game last year.
Tapley's twin sister, Lindsay, also was a standout for Arundel and has played significant minutes at Salisbury.
