To get an early look at Maryland and Virginia's athletes in Sochi, the best you can do is catch the tape-delayed Olympic opening ceremonies televised by NBC starting Friday at 7:30 p.m. — unless you look toward Canada.

Baltimore native Summer Britcherwill represent the U.S. in luge.

Ashley Caldwell, from Ashburn, VA, will compete in freestyle skiing, and Ashley Wagner, of Alexandria, VA, will go for the gold in women's figure skating.

NBC has decided not to livestream those athletes or any other marching in the opening ceremonies, which actually begin Friday at 11 a.m.

In Candada, though, CBC will show the Olympic opening ceremonies in real time. Forbes has some tips on how to watch the Canadian coverage — legally, it says — for free from the United States.
