'Teacher of the Year' Semifinalists Include 5 Local Educators

Nominees will be honored at a banquet on April 11.

Staff members at five schools in west Anne Arundel County are among the semifinalists under consideration for the "Teacher of the Year" honor to be announced in April. 

The semifinalists were whittled down from an earlier list of 56 nominees, and include three local elementary school teachers, a middle school teacher and one high school educator. The "Teacher of the Year" honor is presented by Anne Arundel County Public Schools the Annapolis and Anne Arundel County Chamber of Commerce.

They include:
  • Bradley Wray, Arundel High School
  • Jennifer Swiech, Meade Middle School
  • Stacey Walczak, Seven Oaks Elementary School
  • Jessica Howell, Manor View Elementary School
  • Susan Marie Sheehy, Millersville Elementary School
In addition Amy Brunner of Archbishop Spalding High School is one of three finalist for Private School Teacher of the Year. 

Five finalists for the Teacher of the Year honor will be announced in February and the winner will be revealed at a banquet on April 11.
