Old Mill Student Up for County Board Seat

Nick Lefavor, a junior, will go up against two other county students for a spot on the Anne Arundel County Board of Education.

An Old Mill High School student has been selected as a finalist for a position on the Anne Arundel County Board of Education.

Nick Lefavor, who will be a senior during the 2012-13 school year, is one of three candidates downselected from eight applicants. He underwent a series of interviews from a three-member panel and will participate in a Candidates Night on Feb. 29.

The other two candidates are Sean Cooley of Severna Park High School and Jake Ritterpusch of Chesapeake High School, according to a press release from the school system.

Gov. Martin O'Malley will ultimately appoint the board member following a vote by the General Assembly of the Chesapeake Regional Association of Student Councils on March 26.

The student board position is currently occupied by Jillian Buck of South River High School. The position is believed to be the only one in the country to carry full voting rights.

Sounds like the inmates are running the prison, again. Our adult school board can only vote to spend more money, so we are going to install a student to help them. If you say school it deserves a blank check and no one considers from where the money will come, but then again the schools are doing such a fine job. Bill Gates, says that he can't find properly educated people in this country and has to go abroad, but I don't see where he starting a university with his billions of dollars to train the very ones that gave him his money. Where was he educated, not abroad.
