There will be no 5K race in Piney Orchard this spring, but running enthusiasts still may have a chance to run informally on the day of the community's street festival on May 12.

Residents learned this week that there would be no organized race, which in the past has raised money for new technologies at (POES).

"There is is no POES running festival this year," said Piney Orchard Elementary School teacher Sharon Layman, who has put together the event in the past. "I have organized it myself all the past years and didn't have the time to devote to it this year. We may have it again next year."

due to its scenic route through the Piney Orchard Nature Preserve and the challenging changes in elevation.
