Four people have been hospitalized following a crash on Interstate 97 in the Millersville area, a fire department spokesman said.
Capt. Mike Pfaltzgraff of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said units responded at about 4:30 a.m. Sunday to a report of at least two vehicles colliding on the highway near Brightview Drive.
Firefighters arrived to find several patients trapped inside at least one of the vehicles. It took about 20 minutes to extricate all of the passengers.
Paramedics transported four patients to local hospitals. Among them:
- A woman, approximately 35 years old, sent to Shock Trauma with life-threatening injuries.
- Two women, approximately 54 and 34 years of age, to Harbor Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries
- A man, believed to be about 23 years old, to Baltimore Washington Medical Center with serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The crash and the ensuing investigation caused delays on I-97 for much of Sunday morning.
Correction: A previous version of this article had incorrect information regarding the patient sent to Shock Trauma. She is a woman, approximately 35 years old. Patch regrets the error.
