Former Local Art Teacher Earns Top State Honor

Eleni Dykstra, an art resource teacher in the county, was named 2013 Art Teacher of the Year. She was previously an art teacher at Old Mill Middle School South.

A former art teacher at Old Mill Middle School South has been awarded Maryland's top honor for art instruction.

Eleni Dykstra, who serves as an art resource teacher for the county, was named Maryland Art Educator of the Year by the National Art Education Association. 

In her current role as resource teacher, Dykstra helps with writing curriculum and assists in professional development and supporting other teachers. She was an art teacher at Old Mill Middle School South as recently as 2008.

Dykstra has worked in the art education field for 22 years with schools in Anne Arundel and Baltimore counties, according to a press release.

Dykstra will receive the award at a national conference in March in Fort Worth, TX.
