Walgreens on Piney Orchard Parkway Now Open

The long-awaited drugstore is ready for customers.

After watching months of construction work, residents of Odenton can now shop at the new Walgreens store.

The pharmacy on Piney Orchard Parkway opened for business last week and is the newest retailer in the Odenton Town Center.

The store opening means the end of disruptive construction work next to the Odenton Ace Hardware, and soon the Rieve's Deli will be open again for business in the back of the site. (If you recall, the historic Rieve's building was moved to accommodate the Walgreens.)

Walgreens is accessible from Piney Orchard Parkway and from Odenton Road.

I went in to pick up a couple items on Monday morning. My purchases: a Starbucks Frappuccino drink and some rubber bands.

I was struck by how spacious the store is.

Walgreens will soon have some additional competition, as the CVS near the traffic circle on Annapolis Road is currently under construction.

Do you plan to shop at the new Walgreens?

Very happy to see this open now. Of all the chain drug stores, Walgreens has always been my favorite. I left a town in SC that had three of them (so one was always conveniently nearby) to come up here and find the closest one at the time, was 15 minutes away. Not a journey by any means, but it is still nice to have one right around the corner now.

CVS has treated Odenton like crap for years and especially after super stale closed. I am glad that Walgreens has moved in and given CVS a run for their money. Only now are they building a new store which I am sure wouldn't of happened had Walgreens not been built.

The people coming off the 175 exit ramp onto Piney Orchard Pkwy need to realize that more people will now be trying to get over in the right lane and will be slowing down to make a right into the Walgreens parking lot. I had a close call there during rush hour the other day. People commuting from that direction are used to just whipping around that ramp with most of the traffic headed into Piney Orchard. That won't be the case anymore. I hope we don't see a bunch of accidents there.
