New Program to Speed Access to Fort Meade

The new Trusted Traveler program will allow anyone with a Department of Defense identification to vouch for anyone in their car.

Fort Meade has implemented a new program designed to speed up traffic through the installation gates.

The Army has asked all installations to use the new Trusted Traveler Progra, which allows anyone with a Department of Defense identification card to vouch for anyone in their vehicle.

According to Fort Meade's website, the change will offer flexibility to those bringing friends and family onto the installation, and will reduce traffic congestion.

I'm guessing this is still going to require us to pull our ID's out of our wallets so that the guards can touch them. I have destroyed two ID wallets (that have your ID card open for viewing) pulling my ID out at Ft. Meade.

All too frequently some of the gate guards do not screenour ID cards and wave us through because our car is registered. Laxadasical, complacent and inadequent screening opens the gates wider for terrorsists and with this new policy you might as well not use the guards at all.

I've been coming on to post nearly daily for about 5 or 6 years now, and I have NEVER not had my ID checked. Although car stickers are no longer required, one must still produce appropriate ID before being allowed on post. Even though many guards know me by now, on the rare occasion that I do not have my ID, I have NOT been allowed to skirt policy. I think they do a great job.

@ Helen. Have you reported their actions to the appropriate authorities on base instead of a local article in an online publication?
