People's Community Health Centers is looking to organize a 5K walk and run in June to raise funds for a new community center in Severn.
The group is seeking committee members to handle tasks ranging from raceday logistics to marketing for the event, which would be held on June 1.
All funds would go to support ongoing efforts to build the Severn Community Health and Wellness Center on a site near Van Bokkelen Elementary School.
The Severn Community Health and Wellness Center will consist of a health center funded largely by government grants, and a recreation and community space, which would be funded through donations. Peoples' officials said they hope to raise about $2.5 million for the community center portion, with a goal to break ground on the entire complex early next year.
Stacey Schiano, a fund development manager with People's, said the committee would meet once a month beginning on Jan. 29. Meetings would be held at the People’s Community Health Center located at 1370 Odenton Rd., Odenton.
