These aren't your same old barracks.
Fort Meade will break ground next week on a new, 432-unit apartment complex, featuring a clubhouse, lap pool and fitness center.
The Reece Crossings project will be designed to accommodate as many as 816 single soldiers on the installation, according to a media statement. It will be the first privately-developed apartment complex at Fort Meade.
There will be two types of apartments in the complex. One-bedroom units with dens will have 1,126 square feet, while two-bedroom units comprise 1,186 square feet. All units will have kitchens and laundry rooms with washers and dryers.
The clubhouse will feature high-speed Internet and a large flat-screen television.
Outside, there will be a patio area with sand volleyball and basketball courts.
Reece Crossings is one of a number of new projects under development during Fort Meade's ongoing transformation. Other recent work has included a new USO Center and a Veterans Administration outpatient clinic, and a new hotel also is planned.
Reece Crossings will break ground on Feb. 20. It is expected to be fully built by December.
