Former Odenton Man Gets 5 Years for Child Porn

Bret Desmarteau was found with more than 600 images of child pornography when investigators seized his computer from space that he rented in Odenton.

A former Odenton man and National Guardsman has been sentenced to five years in prison after pleading guilty last year to possession of child pornography.

U.S. District Judge J. Frederick Motz also sentenced Bret W. Desmarteau, 30, to a lifetime of supervised release and ordered him to register as a sex offender, according to a release from the FBI.

According to the plea deal outlined by the United States Attorney for the District of Maryland, FBI undercover agents discovered Desmarteau while investigating  a file sharing site suspected of being used for the transfer of child pornography. They requested access to profiles belonging to Desmarteau, and eventually traced them back to an address in Odenton.

In January 2010, a different FBI undercover officer downloaded videos and pictures from an Internet protocol address assigned to a location in Fort Huachuca, AZ. At that time, Desmarteau was in Fort Huachuca for a class related to his military duties. Investigators then learned that Desmarteau was renting space in a house on Apple Blossom Lane in Odenton.

The FBI obtained a search warrant for the house and seized his computers, which contained more than 600 images of child pornography, as well as images depicting violence and masochistic behavior.

Desmarteau reached a in August 2011.

The investigation was coordinated as part of Project Safe Childhood, a program operated by the Department of Justice.
