A Severn man has been found guilty of manslaughter in the death of a friend, after a judge did not find convincing evidence of self defense, the Capital-Gazette reported.

Anthony James Garcia could serve up to 10 years in jail in the Dec. 6 death of David Harley on Fair Bridge Drive in Severn. Circuit Court Judge Michelle Jaklitsch said the evidence showed that while the two men were involved in an altercation, Garcia could have stopped the fight and should not have feared for his life.

A medical examiner testified that Harley died as a result of asphyxiation. Garcia's defense attorneys claimed Harley had antifreeze in his system as a result of a previous suicide attempt; the medical examiner said that would not have been enough to kill Harley, and ruled the death a homicide.

Sentencing in the case will take place Oct. 15.
