Updated - (Thursday, 4:05 p.m.) - A pregnant woman was hospitalized after being struck by a pickup truck in the Chapelgate section of Odenton on Wednesday evening, fire and police officials said.
Lt. Cliff Kooser of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said the incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. at the 600 block of Chapelgate Drive.
The injured woman is approximately 20 years old and is 40 weeks pregnant, Kooser said. She suffered injuries that were serious, but not life threatening.
Anne Arundel County police spokesman Justin Mulcahy said the woman was struck by a Dodge Dakota truck.
Mulcahy said that a preliminary investigation indicated the woman was walking on the shoulder with traffic and was wearing dark clothing. However, he said the truck appeared to sway over the white line and struck the woman, who sustained injuries to her lower body.
Information about the condition of the unborn baby was not immediately available.

If the lady was in the crosswalk and the driver failed to yield to her, (or any number of other possible scenarios) then it is driver error. Just because drivers regularly exceed the speed limit along this road, that does not mean that that is the case here. Many of the recent pedestrian accidents around here recently have been determined to be pedestrian error.
