A woman found dead in an apparent homicide at the Medical Arts Centre of Glen Burnie has been identified as a cleaner in the building from Pasadena.
victim, identified as Christie Lynn Pelland, 43, worked as a cleaner for Spiritual
Cleaning, Anne Arundel County Police said Monday night. Pelland cleaned several of the offices inside of the building. The office where she was found is a gynecologist's office.
Preliminary investigation indicates that there were no signs of forced entry into the building and this does not appear to be a burglary. Early indication points to this being a targeted incident, police said.
Pelland's body was found inside the building at about 8:45 a.m. Monday with obvious signs of upper body trauma, said spokesman Lt. T.J. Smith said.
"We were notified by an employee who was opening one of the suites inside this medical facility and she found an adult female dead," police spokesman Justin Mulchahy told WBAL TV.
Police said they aren't sure if Pelland was killed over the weekend or Monday before her body was found.
The medical center where the homicide occurred at 325 Hospital Drive was closed Monday but is expected to re-open for normal hours Tuesday.
"We just don’t know and that’s something we're trying to ascertain. We’re also trying to determine if the victim had any affiliation to this faculty in any way, shape or form," Muchahy said.
A doctor who works in the building arrived after being alerted that his office alarm had gone off.
"I feel sorry for the person who was murdered and I hope the police and all the investigators find out who the person is behind this so we can all feel safer," Dr. Mahesh Ochaney told WBAL.
The doctor said he's had an office there for at least 10 years and that safety has always been a concern. He said he and the other doctors may need to increase security.
