Anne Arundel County police said the investigation into a murder in Odenton in December remains very active, and that they have been pleased with the amount of information provided by nearby residents.

The commander for Western District said Wednesday that they have identified "people of interest" in the case. Acting Capt. Thomas Kohlmann declined to offer much further detail, citing the sensitivity of the investigation.

Sharron Charles Mason died on Dec. 10 in his home on Chapelview Drive after suffering gunshot wounds to the upper body.

Police said residents of the Chapelgate neighborhood have been helpful, especially since re-forming a community association.

"We're continuing to receive information, and that's the most positive thing for me," he said.

Officer Tears ACL

An Anne Arundel County police officer was honored by the department for intervening during an assault that followed a car crash last month. Police said the officer tore a medial collateral ligament during the Dec. 18 incident, in which she was attacked while trying to break up an assault near the intersection of Rockenbach and Annapolis Roads. She was honored as officer of the month within Western District, Kohlmann said.

Three people were arrested in the case, with two charged with assault on a police officer.
