Fire in Seven Oaks

More than 60 firefighters battled a two-alarm blaze on Military Place in Odenton.

Firefighters Sunday night spent hours battling a large blaze at an apartment complex in Odenton.

Lt. Cliff Kooser of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said units responded at about 6 p.m. to the 2000 block of Military Place, just off Blue Water Boulevard. They found smoke and fire coming from the roof of a three-story, garden-style apartment building.

The fire escalated to two alarms, and there were more than 60 firefighters on the scene along with 25 pieces of equipment from as far away as Kent Island.

Firefighters were still fighting the blaze as of 9 p.m. Sunday.

Eagle Landing Way was closed to traffic.

Kooser said there have been no initial reports of injuries and a cause has not yet been determined, he said.

Displaced residents were receiving assistance at the Seven Oaks Community Center.

I will find out in the morning how many people have been displaced and who is in need of things like clothes and other basic needs. If you know of someone in need, please email me with sizes and we can facilitate a collection. In the meantime, be sure to check out Lauren's Luggage as well. I'm told they can get blankets and other basic items to families by noon tomorrow if they know where to send them.

Cudos go to the Red Cross for all of their assistance. If it wasn't for them, many of us would not have a place to stay last night. They showed up within an hour of the fire starting.

Any word yet on what caused this fire? Did the apartments have auromatic fire sprinklers?
Tim Lemke (Editor) October 3, 2012 at 11:57 am
The fire department has not yet announced an official cause, though I'm sure many people have heard rumors.
Investigators were on the scene both Monday and Tuesday.

I have a very close friend and her husband is a fire fighter for AACO. Their jobs are so dangerous every day with climbing those ladders in a hurry to try and save those people's lives on the 3rd floor of those apartment buildings. I keep him in my prayers each and every night for his safety as he was ran over by someone in a black Mercedes "who did not stop" (HOW CRUEL CAN U BE) KHARMA WILL GET THAT PERSON ... and was hurt about a year ago on a fire in Odenton but as dedicated as he is ... he went right back into that fire to help his fellow firefighters. I just hope and pray that everyone is ok from this unfortunate fire. :-(
