POLL: Should Evergreen Road Be Extended to Piney Orchard?

Plans for new development and a school to the west of Route 3 have the county considering extending the road. What do you think?

There's a lot to digest when it comes to A new development ith 2,060 homes. A

And, a possible extension of Evergreen Road right into Piney Orchard.

Current plans call for the road to connect to Strawberry Lake Way, actually taking away a portion of GORC Park. (Developers said it will take away about .9 acres, but they'll add two more.)

In the early going, the plans for the new road haven't been met warmly by members of the community, who wonder what impact it will have on traffic. They also have questioned why the road has to connect at GORC Park.

But some residents said they'd welcome a road extension there, because it would serve as a shortcut to get to the Waugh Chapel shopping centers. Moreover, the school system seems to support it because it would prevent the need for buses to travel onto Route 3.

What do you think? Do you support an extension of Evergreen Road into Piney Orchard?

Imagine back to the 1990's when Piney orchard was being considered I was living here and it didn't exist no elementary school just farm and dirt roads. Now look at it it has grown considerably and we all survived. So I am all for it but my only two reservation would be a new High School not an elementary school. Also could they put some sound walls up by the race track it has gotten much louder with all those trees gone and will only get worse with more coming down. I like to think of the short cut using evergreen as a way to avoid Waugh Chapel and how about no buses on rt3 now that's cool. So lets move forward and create jobs and a better community.

Yes. Residents of Anne Arundel County have to cross the Patuxent River to commute to the Washington area. There are only four Patuxent River bridges in all of AACo (Priest Bridge, BW-Pky, Balt Ave, and Brock Bridge) . By extending Evergreen Rd, much of our Route 3/Priest Bridge traffic would be diverted to the B-W Parkway.

This road will run along the length of my backyard, where there are now trees. It will destroy my quality of life, invade my privacy, pollute my air, increase the noise level and decrease the value of my property. All so that a bunch of strangers can shave 5 minutes off their trip to the store. No thank you!
