The so-called Orphan Train movement began in the mid-19th century, and an estimated 30,000 abandoned children were living on the streets of New York at the time. Over the next 75 years of the movement, between 150,000 and 200,000 "orphan" children were relocated to new homes via the Orphan Trains. Robert Armentrout, Vice President of the Odenton Genial Genealogists, will be giving a tutorial on the subject on Monday, December 3, at the O’Malley Senior Center Annex in Odenton, from 1pm to 3pm.
