The thumping sounds of the Backstreet Boys and Britney Spears filled the room Friday at the new My Gym in Crofton, as toddlers waddled onto a trampoline and older kids checked out the zip line.
The new facility on Route 3 is holding an open house this weekend and next, allowing area families to test out the array of activities available for children as young as six weeks.
Franchise owner Christin Shifflett a former school teacher and fitness instructor, has been operating the Annapolis My Gym location for two-and-a-half years, and now has opened a second location.
Shifflett said the idea behind My Gym is to offer one-hour sessions where kids can get exercise and learn skills like teamwork and following directions.
The My Gym is set up with an array of equipment including mats, swings, a trampoline and slides. During classes, an instructor interacts with kids and parents on age-appropriate activities, including tumbling, gymnastics, jumping and—for older kids—circuit training. There are classes for kids as young as six months ("Little Bundles") to as old as 13 years ("Cardio Kids.")
A one-month fee to My Gym costs $50 to $75 depending on the age of the child, plus a $75 lifetime membership. The membership includes one class a week, plus unlimited free play time.
My Gym also offers birthday parties anytime after 2 p.m. Friday and on weekends. Parties range in price from $225-$399 for members and $250-$424 for non-members.
My Gym Crofton is located at 1119 Route 3 North. For a schedule of classes, check out the gym's website.
