New Consignment Shop to Open in Odenton

Oasis Consignments will specialize in clothing for women and children, and will be accepting items for consignment by the end of the month.

Area residents with an eye for fashion and bargains will have a new place to shop in Odenton.

Oasis Consignments is scheduled to open in March, and will be operated by two local residents who hope to transfer their love of shopping to a love of selling.

The store will specialize in clothing and accessories for women and children, and will fill 2,200 square feet of space at the Academy Junction shopping plaza.

The shop will be operated by Debra Hoffmaster and Alexis Davis, who were longtime lovers of consignment shopping.

“It’s a change of career for both of us,” said Hoffmaster, a Millersville resident. “We’d been talking about doing this for a couple of years. It was finally, ‘When are we finally going to do this?’”

This is the first venture into business ownership for the women, who were neighbors in Pennsylvania before each relocated to Maryland. Hoffmaster left a job working as a project director in law enforcement in the District of Columbia. Davis, meanwhile, was an accountant.

The duo spent some time researching the business by visiting many consignment shops in the area, and also gathered data on potential locations. They said they settled on Odenton because of the growth in population and expansion at Fort Meade, as well as the lack of consignment shops in town.

Hoffmaster said it appears the consignment shops have done well during the recent slow economy, but she expects people to continue to want to save money even as things rebound.

Oasis Consignments will operate as most consignment shops do, with the public providing items for the shop to sell and the store splitting proceeds. The store will generally keep about 60 percent of the sale price on items, Hoffmaster said.

The shop will begin accepting items on Feb. 28, and will have a soft opening of the store on March 13. The store is looking for brand-name clothing from stores including Ann Taylor, Nordstrom, Macy’s and similar brands, as well as children’s clothing from newborn to size 6. The store will also accept some small home accessory items.

Hoffmaster said she hopes the store will be popular among women who enjoy high-quality fashions, but like to save money.

“You can get quite an adrenaline rush from getting a deal!” she said.

Oasis Consignments will be located at 8387 Piney Orchard Parkway in Odenton.

Looking forward to the new shop in the Odenton area. I travel to other areas to get deals and it would be nice to shop in my own backyard. Looking forward to the opening and to meeting the new owners! Anita Marshall-Financial Center Leader, BB&T Bank Odenton
