Every Thursday afternoon, Odenton Patch will provide a short profile of a local eatery. Today, we offer our thoughts on Hunan L'Rose, a well-regarded Chinese restaurant located in the Odenton Shopping Center.
Overview: Hunan L’Rose is well-known in Odenton as an upscale-but-not-too fancy Chinese restaurant with a broad menu. It’s a popular spot for parties and family gatherings. Great for dinner, but with a nice lunch menu and carryout.
Decor: The restaurant has a traditional feel without coming off as too stuffy. The large fish tank in the middle of the restaurant is a nice tough an the multi-tiered dining areas adds intimacy without sacrificing tables (but watch your step!)
Appetizers: The steamed and fried dumplings are a favorite, but the more open-minded diner might try the Crab Rangoon or Squid Delight. Most appetizers are reasonably priced at under $5. Wonton, egg drop and hot and sour soup is also available.
Entrees: There are the staples, such as chicken with cashew nuts or kung pao chicken ($11.95) but some more adventurous dishes featuring lobster, squid and scallops. There is also a wide array of vegetarian dishes.
Desserts: Hunan L’Rose has limited options for dessert, but does include small bowls of sherbet and orange slices after every meal. The fried banana flambé is also a favorite.
Service: Weekends can be crowded but long waits for a table are rare. Wait staff is attentive, pleasant and knowledgeable.
