No Guns at Target: Right to Keep Weapons Out?

Open carry laws in some states provides more comfort for gun owners. But is Target's move an effort to protect everyone else?

The latest battleground for gun-control groups and open carry advocates, Target became the largest retailer to ask that gun owners leave their weapon at home.

Bringing firearms to Target creates an environment that is at odds with the family-friendly shopping and work experience we strive to create," wrote interim chief executive, John Mulligan, last week. "Starting today we will also respectfully request that guests not bring firearms to Target – even in communities where it is permitted by law.”

What do you think? Should Target customers be allowed to carry guns?

Open Carry Texas and similar groups have been openly arming themselves on high-profile visits to restaurants chains, including Starbucks and Chipotle, along with stores like Target and Home Depot, in support of open carry laws.

Last week, a new open carry law in Georgia is bringing gun holsters to most any business that hasn't banned them.

Target's new gun policy is also a reaction to lobbying from gun-control groups, including Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, claiming 40,000 requested the store make the no guns policy.

But some gun-control advocates argue Target didn't go far enough. The company's statement is a request to leave guns at home — it's not a ban and gun owners will not be challenged by employees if they're carrying in the store.

Steve, Target is not the only department store in your area. If you disagree with Target's request involving guns, don't shop there.

David, my brother, please make sure you don't bring any of them into Target or Chipotle.=)

Well, making Target stores into "gun free zones" is having predictable results. Thugs now know that Target is a place to find plenty of unarmed victims, and customers are paying the price. http://www.wnd.com/2014/07/armed-robbers-shopping-for-victims-at-target/
