Woman Hurt Critically in Accident on Route 3
A chain reaction crash near McKnew Road sends three to the hospital, including a 43-year-old woman with serious injuries.
A woman was seriously hurt Thursday afternoon following a multi-car crash near Maryland Route 3 North and McKnew Road in Gambrills.
Batallion Chief Steve Thompson of the Anne Arundel County Fire Department said at least three cars were involved in the crash, which resulted from a chain reaction in which at least one car rear-ended another.
Emergency crews responded at about 2:50 p.m. and transported a 43-year-old woman to the Shock Trauma center in Baltimore. Thompson said the woman's injuries initially appeared to be serious but not life-threatening, but that her lung collapsed on the way to the hospital. Paramedics were forced to pull off to the side of the road and perform chest compressions before getting to the hospital. Her condition was downgraded to critical upon arrival, Thompson.
Two other crash victims, believed to be related to the woman, were also transported to nearby University of Maryland Medical Center with minor injuries.
