Wegmans To Begin Hiring for New Store

The family-owned supermarket, which plans to open this fall, will hire hundreds for the new store in Gambrills.

With each new store that opens in the Waugh Chapel Towne Centre, there are opportunities for employment. Wegmans Food Market is scheduled to open in the fall and will hire 470 new employees, according to a press release.

The store is currently hiring for 160 full-time positions. Applicants must apply online at www.wegmans.com/careers. In-person applications and phone calls will not be accepted.

Full-time positions include entry-level management, customer service, pharmacy staff, cashiers and a wide range of culinary and food service positions.

"There's a great diversity of jobs and career paths at Wegmans," said recently appointed store manager Gerry Troisi in a press release. "What distinguishes the people we hire to fill these positions is a passion for food and for people. That is much more important to us than grocery experience."

Wegmans, founded in 1916, has stores in Maryland, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Virginia.

"We couldn't be more excited about building a strong team for the Crofton store," Troisi said. "We'll be looking for people who share our commitment to incredible service and to our core values of caring and respect for customers and fellow workers."

The Waugh Chapel location will be the sixth Wegmans store in Maryland. It is tentatively scheduled to open on Oct. 28.

I cannot wait for a fish fry from Wegmans, it was tradition when I lived in Buffalo and it will soon become a tradition again.

I'm not seeing them when I go to the site. If they are there, maybe it's because of the First Lady's campaign for healthy eating.
