Week in Review: Robberies, a Bad Accident and Some Stuff For Moms

Here's what you may have missed over the last week.

Last week was anything but quiet, as we dealt with everything from ice storms to car accidents and robberies.

Odenton Patch started off the week with coverage of the Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge, which featured hundreds of Arundel High School students and some local firefighters.

In sports news, the Arundel basketball teams squeezed in three games a piece, with some big wins and tough losses to county rivals. We profiled some of the unheralded members of the Arundel wrestling team, and updated you on the great performances of a UMBC swimmer from Gambrills.

In business news, we looked at plans by Pachanga Grill to renovate, and also reported on some complications to an apartments project in Odenton. In addition, Kiddie Korner Day Care opened its doors on Higgins Drive after several months of delay.

On Wednesday, we woke up to learn of a serious accident at a bus stop in Piney Orchard. We also rolled out some great new content for moms in our community, including some money-saving tips, ideas for places to take the kids and a suggestion on a quick getaway. We also profiled the first Odenton Patch “Whiz Kid” who helped raise nearly $37,000 for Special Olympics.

We also offered some great new content on Thursday, with suggestions on where to go to watch the Super Bowl, a review of a great Chinese restaurant in town and some insight into the real estate market in Piney Orchard.

In crime news, we reported on the arrest of a man in connection with two robberies in North Odenton, and also touched on the potential spread of PCP use in the community. And on Friday, some community leaders met to discuss the problem of gang violence.

We wrapped up the week with news about the All County Band concert and a great recipe for some Super Bowl finger food.

Keep checking in with us all week for all the latest news on things that affect our community.
