Theater Classes Proposed in Piney Orchard
A Piney Orchard resident is looking to teach sessions in drama and musical theater to children in the community this fall.
A Piney Orchard resident is looking to generate interest in a series of theater classes for children in the community this fall.
Rebecca Feibel, a lifelong theatre enthusiast, hopes to hold as many as three classes at the Piney Orchard Community Center, including classes in drama and musical theatre.
Feibel is hoping to get permission from the Piney Orchard Community Association Board of Directors to use the space rent-free.
Feibel said she hopes to charge $45 for a nine-week session, but the price would double if she needed to pay rent.
Feibel said she is considering teaching an introductory drama class for children aged 5 to 7, and a musical theater class for children 8 to 11. Both of those classes would be held in the evenings. Some residents have also expressed interest in a daytime class for pre-kindergarten students.
To gain POCA board approval, she must show there is interest in the class through the number of people who have signed up.
“I’ve had a lot of interest, and if they let me do it, it can be at about half the cost of any other program around here,” she said. “I feel like that’s part of what you’re paying for, that you have this community center that should be used to have these types of things.”
Feibel most recently performed as a member of the Colonial Players in Annapolis. She holds degrees in history and secondary education from UMBC and minored in theater there.
To express interest in a class, residents can sign a petition online or email Feibel directly at rfeibel@yahoo.com.

Will there be a class for older children around 12 or 13? She has the eagerness and disipline to learn anything she sets out to do. Thank you for your help and have a good day.
