SHA: Casino Event to Snarl Wednesday Commute on 295, 100

Driver should note a casino event at Maryland Live! by Arundel Mills will snarl Wednesday evening's commute, said officials.

Traffic will be "extremely heavy" on MD 295 and Arundel Mills Boulevard in the late afternoon, according to the State Highway Administration (SHA). Route 100 at Arundel Mills Boulevard may also be congested.

SHA recommends using I-95, US 1 (Washington Boulevard) and US 29 (Columbia Pike) as alternate routes.

More drivers than usual will be heading to Arundel Mills on Sept. 12 for a special event at Maryland Live! casino.

The SHA advises calling 511 or looking at its website showing traffic conditions before heading for the highway.

Casinos are really adding to our life! With a slight of hand, the money from casinos will go to educations but the amount of money which used to go to educations from the General Fund is being reduced by the amount the Casinos generate. A big ZERO net gain for education. (But it's for the children!!! Politicians playing us for saps again.)

Oh really? People are going crazy over new slot machines?

That casino is a sad, sad place to walk through.

The casino sent out emails to their "LIST" that there was $100 waiting for them at the casino.

Nobody "took" anything from "poor folks"! Remember, when one gambles they willinging GIVE it. Nobody grabs them by their hands and drags them to the slots. Gambling is not meant to be a retirement fund; it's pure entertainment and nothing more. In my opinion, I pay taxes for most of these "poor folks" to live off via welfare and they shouldn't be in casino gambling away what little means they do have.

Funny .. we used 295 this evening between West Nursery and 100 southbound and there was barely a soul on it. Could it be that the people of Maryland ... don't care anymore? How sad for Mr. Cordish (but my timing is probably off and it was a zoo soon before or after 6:30).

I hate to say this but I don’t feel sorry for the teachers in the union, especially those in Anne Arundel County, who fought to have Maryland Live located at Arundel Mills Mall. Now they are upset because they aren’t getting the casino revenue they were promised. You would have thought they would have learned from how lottery revenue was handled. As for the traffic headaches on Rt. 295 and Rt. 100, numerous people have been saying before that the roads around Arundel Mills Mall couldn’t handle the increase of traffic in the area. Cordish doesn’t care how people in and around the neighborhood are being negatively affected as long as money is flowing in his pockets. The one silver lining for me was that I was at work while the promotion was occurring so as a result, I wasn’t affected by Wednesday’s traffic mess.

Correct. Check back in about 3 years and ask any AA county school if they've received on red cent.

It's a scam. It goes into the "education fund" but eventually gets sucked out into the general fund which means it gets spend on the state's bills and projects. Local schools don't see squat and actually the school system in general won't see squat.

Were there any traffic issues on 100/295?
