What do you think when people physically defend themselves when "attacked." How would you respond to a scenario like this?

I think it's awesome. I was attacked by a stranger one morning in college and tried to beat the s*** out of him. He got away but I'm pretty sure he was in pain. It sends a message - "I'm not going down without a fight and you will NOT get away with your crime easily."
